We are excited to announce that the Strio.AI team, a Boston-based robotics company applying automation and AI to agriculture applications, is joining Zoox.

Ruijie He (who goes by “RJ”), previously the CEO and Co-Founder at Strio.AI, is joining as our new Director of Perception. Prior to Strio.AI, RJ was VP of Software Engineering at Optimus Ride, a Boston-based company developing SAE Level 4 autonomous vehicles. Prior to that he was at Google. RJ studied at MIT, earning a PhD in Autonomous Systems.

In addition to RJ, four Senior Engineers will join the Zoox team: John Carter, John “Jake” Ware, Nick Greene, and Danaan Metge. These talented engineers bring with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise in computer vision and robotics and are welcome additions to our world-class team.

The Strio.AI team is based in Boston and will remain there, and therefore, Zoox will be opening a new R&D site in that location to kickstart our presence on the East Coast as we continue to scale. This team of engineers bring highly sought-after and needed skill sets, as well deep connections in the Boston area. These new team members will be a catalyst for Zoox, both applying their abilities in the short term as well as opening an exciting avenue of growth for our talent pool in the long term.

During our conversations with RJ and the other members of the Strio.AI team, we were continually impressed by their technical expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and approach to developing state-of-the-art perception systems. We’re thrilled to welcome them aboard as we continue advancing our autonomous technology. Welcome to Zoox, RJ and team!
