Get to Know Our Crew: Mark
System Design and Mission Assurance
Discover what it’s like to be part of the crew at Zoox! We are proud to introduce some of our talented crew and provide an insider look into what it’s like to work at Zoox.
What are your role and responsibilities at Zoox?
I am a Technical Program Manager on our System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team, responsible for several horizontal programs.
How did you find your career in the AV industry?
I started my career as a software engineer developing testing tools for safety-critical systems. As my career progressed, I began to manage teams, products, and programs more specifically related to safety clearances for autonomous vehicles.
How do you hope to make an impact in this space?
Safety is foundational to what we’re creating at Zoox. I want to make an impact by supporting and ensuring clarity and integrity of the safety case to enable trust and safety for our riders.
What is it like to work at Zoox?
Zoox is an energizing and collaborative environment. Everyone is focused on one product and goal: launching and scaling our robotaxi. The folks here are highly inquisitive, patient, and thoughtful.
What is a day in your life as a Technical Program Manager like?
I enjoy the opportunity to work closely with the many, many teams that contribute to the safety clearance. Day to day, this includes clarifying and defining requirements and refining the safety clearance.
What excites you about the future of Zoox?
I look forward to the transition from robotaxis being present in a few cities to becoming a regular part of life across the country, including in Indiana, where I grew up.
What is your favorite feature of the Zoox robotaxi and why?
I like the robotaxi’s design. It’s like the cutest toaster around!
What’s an interesting fact about yourself?
I collect cute, old clocks. One of my favorites is a vintage school clock with paper tape that was used for synchronizing individual classroom clocks and bells.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy acroyoga, climbing, flea markets, playing guitar, and spending time at Dolores Park.
