Foster City, CA • Full-time Design Quality Engineer, Dimensional

Zoox is building a quality team that will take our first-in-class autonomous robot from development to commercialization. Design Quality Engineers will report to the Product Quality Manager and will support the Zoox Quality and Reliability organization through the development of quality-related specifications and requirements to ensure that Zoox’s product and service deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Design Quality Engineer, Dimensional will engage with various organizations at Zoox, from vehicle design team, the design studio, the supplier quality team, the manufacturing team; all the way to the experience team supporting the deployment of our autonomous mobility service. The Design Quality Engineer, Dimensional will facilitate improving designs based on lessons learned at time of manufacture and in the field.

Responsibilities

Work with the Vehicle engineering team at Zoox as an expert ASME Y14.5 GD&T resource
Utilize your strong knowledge of ASME Y14 standards and automotive industry to develop convention for the content, layout, and format of mechanical drawings
Work with design engineers to create GD&T feature controls, features that meet functional requirements, including choice of datum features and advising which geometric controls are best suited for the application
Key contributor to drawing checking process, both planning and managing as well as being one of the responsible individuals reviewing and approving mechanical drawing for production release
Reviewing measurement reports with respect to the drawing and informing the disposition of deviation requests
Collaborating with other members of the quality team to develop key quality specifications, procedures, and processes

Qualifications

Very strong (Advanced) knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T, equivalent to or certified as a GDTP Senior Level.
Engineering or technical bachelor’s degree in an applicable field (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Science) with 5+ years of relevant quality experience
Quality Experience through the automotive product life cycle – design to field
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Attention To Detail

Bonus Qualifications

Experience in a startup environment developing and implementing quality processes and business systems
CATIA V5/V6 experience
Previous experience teaching introductory level GD&T course
Metrology or Mechanical Inspection experience
Automotive OEM or Tier 1 design experience
Automotive OEM or Tier 1 manufacturing engineering experience
Problem Solving & Troubleshooting skills; reasoning from first principles.

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $146,000 to $241,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.

Vaccine Mandate

Employees working in this position will be required to have received a single dose of the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine OR have completed the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series.
