As Sensor Contamination Management (SCM) Attribute Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and integrating the systems which enable Zoox autonomous vehicles to operate safely in inclement weather (rain, snow, dust) by solving contamination issues on camera and lidar systems.  In this highly cross-functional role, you will develop requirements, solve challenging engineering problems, create and test prototypes, and implement and test solutions on autonomous Zoox robots.  You will analyze complex data sets and make design recommendations.  You will work with a high degree of support but independence and will need to drive work of internal and external collaborators.

Responsibilities

  • Develop requirements that drive the development of SCM systems
  • Work with attribute leads, other integration engineers and hardware owners in the development of SCM hardware and controls
  • Develop models of contamination and management systems in  simulation tools
  • Manage, run, analyze and report results from simulations
  • Organize and lead subsystem tests on test benches
  • Organize and lead full-vehicle tests in wind/rain/snow test chambers and on real roads and test tracks
  • Analyze physical and simulated test results and provide design recommendations to improve and optimize SCM performance
  • Work closely with controls and firmware teams to develop SCM controls schemes

Qualifications

  • Experience solving water management issues on vehicles or sensor systems
  • Experience performing  physical tests
  • 3+ years of experience in automotive or aviation integration or mechanical design
  • Basic knowledge of CAD generation in Catia or Solidworks
  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience developing or testing optical or camera systems
  • Proficiency in 3D CFD simulation tools such as StarCCM+
  • Experience with PreonLab simulation tool
  • Advanced capability in CAD tools, such as surfacing and prep for CFD
  • Experience in developing Matlab models
