Zoox is looking for an AI verification engineer intern to join our Systems Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team. In this role, you will fuel our verification & validation efforts through mass simulation and data analysis and work with cross-functional teams to mine data, create statistical models of the real world, generate simulations, and draw conclusions from large datasets. Your work will be highly visible and identify areas for improvement in our stack to directly accelerate the development of software driving on public roads.

In this role you will:

  • Mine driving logs and build models of real-world data
  • Create models of how other people and drivers behave
  • Quantitatively measure the performance of our AI stack
  • Develop algorithms and methods to drive targeted simulations and analyses in high-dimensional space
  • Analyze real-world and simulated data to evaluate stack performance
  • Add features to and expand the capabilities of scenario generation pipelines
  • Scale and improve the efficiency of our mass simulation & analysis pipelines

Requirements

  • Currently working towards a B.S., M.S., Ph.D. or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program and within 1 year of graduation.
  • Minimum of a 3.5 gpa
  • At least one previous industry internship or co-op
  • Able to commit to a minimum of a 12-week internship
  • Professional and positive communication skills
  • Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California
  • Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox.

Technical Qualifications

  • Fluency in Python
  • Pursuing a degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or other quantitative area. MS or PhD preferred; rising senior acceptable
  • Experience with efficient processing and mining of large datasets
  • Experience with industry tooling and best practices: GitHub, production-level coding, scientific libraries and visualization tools, etc.
  • Collaborative team player with strong written and in-person communication skills
  • Ability to empathize & effectively communicate with teammates of different backgrounds

Bonus Qualifications

  • Previous industry or research experience in data science or complex system evaluation
